ANCHORED IN JESUS

ANCHORED IN JESUS

Scripture: Hebrews 6:19 – “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”

Imagine yourself out on the bay, salt in the air, the water stretching as far as you can see. Anyone who’s gone saltwater fishing knows how quickly the weather can turn. One moment the sea is calm; the next, waves begin to rise and the wind picks up. In those moments, fishermen depend on an anchor—without it, they’ll drift helplessly, tossed by the storm.

This image gives us a powerful picture for our lives. Storms come to all of us: challenges, troubles, uncertainty, and loss. But Scripture promises that those who trust in Jesus have a hope that anchors the soul—firm and secure. Just as an anchor keeps a fishing boat from drifting when the sea is rough, Christ holds us steady no matter how fierce our circumstances become.

Fishing in biblical times was full of risk and uncertainty, but it was also a place of faith, hope, and divine provision. The disciples themselves were fishermen, called to follow Jesus in both calm and stormy seas. They learned, sometimes the hard way, that their safety and future depended on more than their skill or knowledge of the waters. The only true security came from trusting the One who rules over wind and waves.

Our anchor is not a physical object, but a relationship with Jesus. Because He has overcome sin and death, His promises are solid and unchanging—deeper than any ocean and stronger than any storm. When life gets hard, we cling to His Word, trust in His love, and bring our worries to Him in prayer. That is how we drop anchor—even when we can’t see the shoreline.

Just as a fisherman relies on the unseen strength of the anchor buried in the sea, we rely on the unseen presence of Christ. He is with us in every trial, keeping us steady, giving us hope that this storm won’t last forever, and that His love and grace will see us through.

If today you feel tossed about, remember that Jesus is your anchor. Hold fast to Him. Trust that, no matter how wild the waters, He will not let you drift.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being our anchor in the storms of life. When we feel overwhelmed or anxious, help us to trust You more deeply. Keep us steady in Your love, and fill us with hope that endures. In Your name, Amen.

No matter what you face, may you always find security and hope in Jesus, your anchor in every storm.
