First Light Hush
Share
There is a sacred window of time on the water right before the sun cracks the horizon. The bay is a perfect sheet of glass, the air carries a brief, cool reprieve, and the only sound is the soft lap of water against the hull. If you wait until 9:00 AM to launch, you miss the magic window entirely—the bay boats are out, the boat ramps are chaotic, and the bite has slowed down. To experience the best the bay has to offer, you have to wake up while it is still dark.
Jesus modeled this exact discipline for us. As Mark 1:35 reminds us, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." His days were packed with crowds, demands, and constant noise. He knew that if He didn't claim the first light hush, the chaos of the world would consume His day.
Winning the battle over your day starts by winning the morning. Giving God your first thoughts, your early silence, and your undivided attention before the phone starts buzzing anchors your mind in peace.
Tomorrow morning, challenge yourself to wake up 20 minutes earlier. Do not touch your phone or look at the news; instead, open your Bible in the quiet and let God set the tone for your day.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the quiet of the morning and the reminder to seek You first. Help me to win the battle of the morning so I can walk in Your peace all day long. Quiet the noise around me, anchor my thoughts in Your truth, and guide my steps. Amen.
